Sensei Jose Ponce is a 7th degree black belt under the World Karate Organization. He has studied many disciplines throughout his 34 years of martial arts. He has studied Shotokan, Shito Ryu, Hawaiian Kenpo, American Kenpo, Imua Lima Lama and Tae Kwon Do, to name a few. Sensei Ponce began teaching martial arts in the metropolitan area in 1989. He conducted programs for the City of Manassas and City of Fairfax Parks and Recreation Departments for over 10 years until he opened his own facility in 2001. He also teaches law enforcement personnel and private lessons to his students. Our curriculum is based on practical self defense techniques which will work in street situations. The classes are quite diverse and usually include boys, girls, men and women of all ages. Classes are divided by levels, beginner, intermediate and advanced. The academy also offers a FULL Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program for those interested in this art. American Karate Academy has instructors and head instructors with more than 10 years of experience. Mrs. Ramona French is our Head Instructor and Mr. John Wojcik is our Senior Instructor.
